[Napoleon I] Henri-Jacques-Guillaume-Clarke and François Antoine de Boissy d'Anglas. Henri-Jacques-Guillaume-Clarke (1765-1818) General who served as Minister of War to Napoleon and Louis XVIII; 1st Count of Hunebourg, 1st Duke of Feltre, Marshal of France. Letter Signed as Minister of War, 4pp, on official stationery, Paris, Jan. 31, 1817. To Baron Martial-Chomar, commander of the 15th Military Division at Rouen, regarding armed gangs roaming the countryside with the goal of pillage and sedition and giving detailed instructions on how to handle them. Later in 1817, Clarke would leave his post as Minister of War and take over command of the 15th Military Division. François Antoine de Boissy d'Anglas (1756-1828) French statesman during the Revolution, First Republic and Empire. An 1820 Autograph Letter Signed ("Boissy d'Anglas"), 2½pp, 7¾ x 4¾", to an unidentified correspondent. He was a member of the Institut de France and the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. In 1819-1821, he published Essai sur la vie et les opinions de M. de Malesherbes.

[Napoleon I] Joseph Fouché (1759-1820) 1st Duc d'Otrante; French statesman and Minister of Police under Napoleon Bonaparte. Letter Signed ("Fouché") as Minister of Police, one page, 9 x 7¼", Paris, 22 of Brumaire, year 14 (Nov. 13, 1805). To the Mayor of the 11th arrondissement: "I am asking you, Sir, to send me a report every day on activities in your City Hall in connection with the distribution of coupons for the exchange of banknotes." Address leaf has a red stamped seal showing the imperial eagle and red stamped "Police Générale de l'Empire." Fine.

Nelson, Horatio, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté (1758-1805) Vice Admiral of the British Navy, famous for his service during the Napoleonic Wars. He was shot and killed by a French sniper during the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), his most famous victory. Holograph Address Leaf Signed "N&B" (Nelson and Bronte). Addressed to "William Pearce Esqr. [Chief Clerk of the Admiralty], Admiralty London." Red oval stamped cancellation, "7 o'Clock JA 1 1802 N.T." and black "2".

  Wellesley, Arthur, 1st Duke of Wellington. Two Autograph Letters Signed ("Wellington"), 2 pages each, 7 x 4½", London, Feb. 11 and June 4, 1845. Both to Miss Georgina Harwood while Minister without Portfolio and Leader of the House of Lords in Robert Peel's second cabinet and as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army. A few excerpts: "…I returned from the House of Lords….You may rely upon having my vote in August….I am under the necessity of attending in Parliament every day….impossible for me to attend the Archbishop…and the Concert in the evening…make my excuses to His Grace….I am obliged to attend in the House of Lords….both nights till two in the morning. The debate was adjourned at that hour…should of course be happy to have a little relaxation!…." Both fine.

Wellesley, Arthur, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) British soldier and statesman; he commanded the allied army that defeated Napoleon at Waterloo; twice prime minister (1828-30, 1834). Autograph Letter Signed ("Wellington"), one page, 7 x 4½", Paris, Feb. 22, 1818. To Monsieur R. Gilmore, at the Hotel de Wagram in Paris, regarding a convenient time to have dinner with Gilmore and his wife. Paper is toned and lightly soiled. Separate address leaf holds Wellington's red wax seal. With a large engraving, suitable for framing.
